Civil structure monitoring

In structural engineering, reinforced concrete is the most common building material and is widely used in large-scale structures such as bridges, tunnels, and dams. Accidents such as structural collapse caused by geological activities frequently occurred, seriously endangering people's lives and property. Monitoring structural health has significant economic and social benefits.

As the structure tends to be large and complicated, some traditional sensors, especially structural strain sensors, such as resistance strain gauges and vibrating wire strain gauges, their complex signal transmission lines are difficult for structural health monitoring. Therefore, it is more and more widely used for intelligent sensors which are easy to integrate, easy to install, high precision and good stability. The distributed fiber temperature strain sensing system is one of the most effective techniques for solving such problems.

Distributed fiber optic temperature strain sensing system using standard fiber optic cable as sensor and communication medium. The sensor cable can be installed under a variety of conditions, covering a wide range and an extra long distance. It is suitable for health monitoring of large structures such as roads, railways, bridges, tunnels and slopes. In the process of making the concrete structure, the strain sensing cable is put into the concrete, or the optical cable is installed outside the structure as a sensor, and the stress change position is located through the Brillouin frequency shift, so that the structural failure can be early warning, so as to realize the long-term effective monitoring of structural stability.
